Frequently asked questions
What is Christian counseling and how does it differ from secular therapy?
Christian counseling at Rooted Hope integrates evidence-based therapeutic practices with Biblical principles. While traditional secular therapy focuses on clinical psychology alone, our approach ensures that mental health treatment aligns with the Word of God. The primary differences include:
Source of Truth: We use Scripture as our primary foundation for truth, whereas secular therapy relies on humanistic or psychological theories.
Biblical Integration: Our licensed therapists help clients align their thoughts and behaviors with Christian values.
Theological Integrity: We avoid secular clinical approaches that contradict Biblical teachings.
Practitioner Perspective: Our counselors are not only licensed professionals but also love the Lord and are well-versed in applying Biblical wisdom to life’s challenges.
Rooted Hope provides a faith-based perspective that bridges the gap between clinical excellence and spiritual growth.
How can Christian counseling help with anxiety?
Christian counseling offers tools to manage anxiety by combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques with faith-based principles. This approach promotes peace and confidence through both psychological strategies and spiritual growth.
What does a Christian counseling session for anxiety look like?
Sessions typically involve three core pillars: cognitive renewal, somatic calming, and spiritual integration.
Cognitive Renewal: We examine core anxious beliefs and hold them up against Scripture, applying 2 Corinthians 10:5 to "take thoughts captive" and replace anxiety-causing thoughts with Biblical truth. This often includes learning how to become grounded in your identity in Christ.
Somatic Calming: We teach breathing and visualization exercises based on Scripture to calm the body’s physical response to stress.
Spiritual Integration: We invite God into the process through prayer, asking Him to lead the therapy and use it as a tool to help fulfill His good plans for your life.
What insurance plans do you accept for counseling?
We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans and United Healthcare.
For clients with other insurance carriers (such as Aetna or Cigna), we prioritize helping you maximize your out-of-network benefits. We provide a monthly superbill for you to submit for potential reimbursement, which often allows for the most direct and private care experience.
(While we cannot guarantee coverage, we aim to make the process as clear as possible by offering guidance to help you navigate your out-of-network benefits. On a case-by-case basis, we can also explore the possibility of submitting claims on your behalf to help you maximize your insurance package.)
Additionally, we may be able to facilitate coverage through a select third-party billing partner depending on your needs and specific plan. If you are interested in exploring this or using out-of-network benefits, please reach out to us and we can help you determine the best path for your coverage.
We also offer self-pay options and a limited number of reduced-fee slots for clients with financial needs.
